ABOUT THE CENSUS
The Census is something that is done every 10 years since the foundation of the US to
count the people who live in this country, no matter their nationality or immigration status.
Census results determine billions of dollars in federal funding, how many seats each state
receives in the U.S. House of Representatives, and influence how congressional and legislative
districts are drawn in each state.
However, in the last Census in 2010, amongst the Latinx/Hispanic community, at least one
million children were not counted. That is 4.6% of children between the ages of 0 and 5 years
old in the United States. The consequence of that is the amount of funding for schools, for
medical and social services was misappropriated.
The lack of an accurate count of people leaves our communities particularly vulnerable and
perpetuates the inequity and lack of access to opportunities and to a dignified life, that is why
